Updated as of 2-16-2006 (Broken links checked and updated) and corrected timeline with thanks to Stats, Rushing, Fanciful_Blocker, many other SCOX board members, WIRED, Wayback, Google and certain loud-mouthed, greedy, disgusting suits.  Comments and speculation are mine.  Feel free to add correct, comment, make copies or whatever.

1985 - Anderer and a partner found The Computer Group (TCG) located in Columbia, SC

1988 to 1996 - McBride employed by Novell (Where Noorda, Yarro, McBride, Anderer and other players met)

1994 - Caldera founded by Ransom Love and Bryan Sparks using money from Ray Noorda. http://lwn.net/Articles/33122/

1995 - Ray Noorda founds Canopy Group (I speculate that Mr. Noorda may have already been losing it based upon the rapidity with which he *adopted* Yarro)

1996 February - McBride Senior Vice President at IKON http://www.forbes.com/finance /mktguideapps/personinfo /FromPersonIdPersonTearsheet .jhtml?passedPersonId=146648

1996 August - TCG acquired by IKON (McBride was the purchaser) http://www.nasbic.org/success/stories/tcg.cfm

1996 - Pointserve founded by Powell and *venture money* I haven't been able to determine where the money came from. http://web.archive.org/web /20011028080341/www.pointserve .com/company.htm

1996 - Caldera sues M$ over Dr DOS  Rumor has it that this was engineered by Yarro.

1996 - Anderer moves to Utah to be on the McBride/IKON team (All the players are now physically co-located)

Although the above information could be considered ancient history, I think it is important in gaining an understanding of how the whole TSCOG mess began.  All along there has been an assumption that McBride was not really involved in the decision process to begin the mess.  I have a gut feeling that this evolved out of plans that he and Anderer made.  McBride has a history of accomplishment, review some of the things he did at Novell.  Anderer also had accomplishments on his own.  I believe the chemistry was set up when McBride and Anderer were on the IKON acquisition rampage.

1997 October - McBride replaced by McClusky at IKON http://www.ikon.com/about /NewsArchives/archives/archive _content.asp?prTXT=100197    (Link appears broken as of 2-16-2006)

1997 October - McBride sues IKON for $10 million (law firm Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough PC) http://thecopiernetwork.com /forums/roadhouse3/messages /589.html

1998 Ralph Yarro is President, CEO and Director of Canopy.  http://www.forbes.com/finance /mktguideapps/personinfo /FromPersonIdPersonTearsheet .jhtml?passedPersonId=116644

1998 - SolutionBank founded (McBride, Ned Stringham, Ty Mattingly, Coleman Barney and Karl Wilhelm) http://www.forbes.com/forbes/1998/1228/6214116a .html

1998 - Anderer lends McBride money to buy house

1998 - Anderer founds SiliconStemcell (McBride as silent partner & consultant) http://philadelphia.bizjournals.com/philadelphia /stories/1999/09/06/story6.html

1999 - SiliconStemcell makes money by threatening companies using the patent stick

1999 April - McBride CEO of Pointserve (the MIT rocket scientist connection) and brings Anderer in

2000 Caldera Systems completes an IPO (Nasdaq: CALD).

2000 April - McBride still listed as CEO of Pointserve http://web.archive.org/web /20000510125534/www.pointserve.com/corporate/news/pr04-17-00.htm

2000 July - SolutionBank changes name to SBI (McBride no longer involved due to IKON settlement)

2000 August - Franklin Covey hires McBride as CEO of franklinplanner.com  http://www.franklincovey.com/about/press/2000/press_franklinplanner.html (questionable link) and http://www.fusionone.com/press/082800.htm

2000 - S2 Partners (Anderer et al) established as successor to SiliconStemcell http://s2.com/html/about.htm

This part of the timeline is when McBride has a major fall, he gets canned at IKON, goes through a divorce, has to rely on friends (Anderer) and has a great idea (SolutionBank) that he loses because of the lawsuit with IKON.  Then he undergoes the failure at Franklin Covey.  I think that now he is somewhat desperate to feed the ego and reestablish himself as a "mover and shaker".  Anderer, in the meantime is doing well, but alienating folks who have a normal outlook on business due to his personality thus the disolvment of SiliconStemcell and the establishment of S2.  It is during the S2 period when they both realize they can make money from the labor of others - starting their downhill slide.

2001 Caldera Systems completes the acquisition of SCO's Server Software and Professional Services Divisions, becoming Caldera International (Caldera) and providing the world's largest UNIX Reseller channel.

2001 January - McBride listed as advisory Board Member of Pointserve

2001 - Anderer CEO of Entirenet (one example of a major M$ connection with Anderer) http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/08/12/004231  Google Cached version

2001 February - Jim Allchin, M$ executive, said "open-source is an intellectual property destroyer. I can't imagine something that could be worse than this for the software business and the intellectual-property business."  May be first public FUD about open source software http://news.com.com/Microsoft+raps+open-source+approach/2100-1001_3-257001.html

2001 November - biff appears on SCOX message board with first message.  Information indicates that the biff personality had been in use prior to this, but this was his first post to Y! SCOX board.

2002 January - M$ externally reveals that Longhorn(now Vista) is slipping badly http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/longhorn_preview.asp
"No one outside of Microsoft can say, and the company sure isn't talking. But I recently received word that Longhorn will be shipping far later than originally thought--think 2005--and this furthers the probability of an XP2E release before then."
--Paul Thurrott January 14, 2002

This period is when I think the first tentative plans were laid.  It is during this period when M$ becomes *extremely* concerned about OSS and they know that their next major product upgrade (Longhorn/Vista) is slipping further and further out.  I think that sometime in 2001 the whole plan comes together.  Anderer, as a M$ insider has the knowledge about their concerns and plans.  He and McBride have already established their method of using IP as a club to extort money.  I believe that sometime durign this period is when Anderer was approached about a FUD campaign.  I also think that all of the Salt Lake City insiders know that Yarro was systematically raping Canopy.  Given the structure of that company and the presence of Yarro, it was almost a no-brainer to approach him with the plan.  He being the type of individual he is, jumped on it immediately.  I believe that this plan was laid out and finalized by the end of 2001.  If you analyze it, They had to have a plan in place because too many time-consuming things happened in a three-month period in 2002.  McBride was hired, the name change was made, McBride had already initiated the IP check internally, Morgan Keegan was brought online and BSF was introduced into the mix.

2002 Caldera changes its name to The SCO Group (SCO), returning to the SCO brand.

2002 June - McBride hired by Caldera

2002 July - Sarbanes-Oxley in place.

2002 August - Caldera name changes to The SCO Group, Inc.

2002 August - Broughten/Davidson email to McBride explaining that there isn't any evidence of copying http://www.groklaw.net/pdf/IBM-459-22.pdf

2002 August - Morgan Keegan hired to raise money http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1102542/000104746904002142/a2127332zex-10_8.htm

During this year their plans were refined.  More than likely it was during this time frame that Anderer or someone else at Pointserve faked the spectral analyzer results.  They would have needed something to show to Morgan Keegan and, most importantly, to BSF.  Especially when the internal code check resulted in negative results.  This is the period when they picked IBM as the target.

2003 February - Morgan Keegan agreement modified

2003 February - BSF agreement to sue IBM http://www.caldera.com/scosour ce/Final_SCOsource_QandA.doc

2003 March - IBM law suite filed http://news.com.com/2100-1016 -991464.html

2003 April - Pointserve sued by Brazen for cheating on the 2000 merger.  What else is new where McBride is involved?

2003 May - DrDos lawsuit documents finally destroyed http://tv.ksl.com/index.php ?nid=5&sid=29450

2003 May - Broughton statement about three independent teams of software engineers from companies were involved in sifting through the code and "are finding more and more evidence to bolster our case."http://www.theage.com.au /articles/2003/05/15/105288532 6973.html

2003 July - S2 (Anderer) formally hired by TSCOG http://www.sec.gov/Archives /edgar/data/1102542/0001047469 04002142/a2127332zex-10_15.htm

2003 July - *estimate* patent application 60/502,098 (Spectral Analyzer) process begun

2003 August - SCO Forum infamous slide show. Within a matter of days the slide show is found to be bogus. Anderer and McBride have a major falling out.  McBride/Yarro figure use DRDOS discovery methods with IBM and still get megabucks.  Anderer has got to realize that he is going to be screwed.

2003 September - Provisional patent app 60/502,098 filed by Powell, Anderer, Lane, White

2003 October - Anderer email written.  He's not in good graces because of the demolishment of the slide show and wants his money.

2003 October - PIPE deal completed

2003 October - Largest single day volume ever, problem is that it was one day *before* the PIPE was announced.

Things must be tense in the TSCOG world.  IBM didn't roll over, Baystar and RPC have got to be getting nervous about their involvement.  Imagine the questions that McBride is getting - his presentation is demolished, he an Anderer are now on the outs and it has got to seem that the whole world is against them.

2004 March - Anderer email leaked.

2004 March - Baystar admits M$ involvement in PIPE deal

2004 April - PIPE start falling apart

2004 September - Anderer on Pointserve BoD. Curiously, McBride is no longer listed and I can't figure out when he was removed.  Pointserve files in wayback are badly mangled.

2004 October - BSF Agreement renegotiated http://www.sec.gov/Archives /edgar/data/1102542/0001104659 04033567/a04-12714_18k.htm  Wouldn't it be great to know who instigated the regnotiation of their original agreement?

2004 December - Yarro voted out of Canopy.

Whoever leaked the Anderer email was intent on destroying Anderer (and possibly others) with no regard for what the results.  The question is, who at TSCOG could have been mad enough to try to clobber him without regard for the results to the company?  Alternatively, who had access to emails & was disgusted at what was revealed by their contents?  Some have speculated that Anderer leaked it, for a while I thought so too, but now I think it was someone else.  Anderer above all would *not* have burned his bridges with M$, they are too important in some of his other dealings.

Obviously there is a lot more to the timeline.  I'm going to continue working on it, but curiously it is really getting hard to track information down about some of the players.  Mr. Anderer for one, seems to be really hard to pin down.  Here's a good Anderer background article http://trends.newsforge.com /article.pl?sid=04/03/09 /0036215&mode=thread

If it weren't for the Internet, I think these crooks would have gotten away with this scam.  Never before has a legal case been examined under a microscope like this.  The outrage from OSS creators and supporters at the accusation of theft and copying was something McBride and Anderer never planned upon.

Regards to the board
